Hmm, it seems like only people with Morgan or Richter in their names are commenting. I love these reviews! Keep up the nice work, oh sister of mine.

About this new moon business: I assume it would give the revolution a cloak of darkness at at night, but I'm not sure a new moon would generate enough moon power to light a kite as a beacon. A full moon would make much more sense.

On the other hand, I love it: beware werewolves on the full moon, and Duran Duran with explosives on a new moon

Heh. I know. Tumbleweeds around here. 'Sokay -- I'm much happier with cheerfully expending vast amounts of time and energy on vintage Duran Duran than I was with charting the decline and fall of Criminal Minds. Rivers belong where they can ramble, eagles belong where they can fly...

beware werewolves on the full moon, and Duran Duran with explosives on a new moon

John + Nick + crates of explosives is just an awesome recipe for catastrophe. There's just no good that can come from that.
I love this blog!!! 04:00 A.M. and I am laughing with the Duranalysis. I probably should be sleeping, but I found a great & funny reading.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks so much, LuSpicacci! I'm glad you're enjoying the Duranalysis!

Thanks for the very enjoyable analysis! I've always loved this absurd video, and now I know why. You have made my day.

Thanks, Pete! Yeah, honestly, this video is one of my favorites -- it's absurd in some parts and downright awful in others, but there's something so deliriously entertaining about it (I mean, they just keep dancing...).

How did I just find this blog recently? NMOM will always hold a special place in my heart because it jumpstarted me into puberty (thank you John and Simon being so hot /tard) but it really is camp genius only perfected in the Arcadia videos.

Hi, Renee -- yeah, as much as the boys themselves profess to hate this video, as campy and cheese-flavored as it undeniably is, I love it dearly. "Camp genius" is exactly the right way to describe it.
"There’s an emblem on Simon’s collar, something that looks like a “Z” with two lines through it. It’s the symbol of la resistance!"

Back in the day, a friend of mine (and myself) referred to the Emblem (logo) as an Anti-Swastika. Just because we thought that would be fitting and cool since the soldiers in New Moon look like German nazis.

However, some year later and doing a closer analysis, seems to me that it probably symbolizes the "Union of the Snake" the big Z being the large snake and the two lines through (smaller snakes) forming a union. Just IMHO - no evidence to prove this, just my speculation. OAN, the symbol does not show up in the "Union of the Snake" video of the same album as New Moon either.

I think the best edit of this video is the short version that unfortunately is not on the Greatest DVD. Some great shots in that, very cinematic.

Hi, Anonymous -- do you have a link to the short version, by any chance? There are so many different versions of this video that I have a hard time keeping them straight (you probably already know this, but Greatest has a whopping five different versions on it, though four are hidden as Easter eggs; if you haven't found them, Wikipedia has a very useful guide to accessing all the different versions).

Hi, Morgan,
I just found that Wikipedia guide a few days ago and finally got around to watching NMOM on the DVD, which is what led me to your site yesterday. (Thanks all the same, though!)
The other short version is from an old fuzzy VHS tape on Youtube here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMi8gnhQZzc. It is described as the "original US broadcast version." I was dismayed it is not on the DVD as, as I said, I think it is the best edit: no odd energy beams from the kite, plus alternate takes and shots not in other verions.

I like the cinematography and lighting in NMOM, and this version has some shots I particularly like, such as the little dog running down the street. All I still have is MY old VHS copy that misses the start but has more at the end than the one on Youtube.

Thanks, Anonymous! I don't think I'd ever seen that version before, and you're right, it's better. It has all the good parts, with some of the junk removed, and I like the new shots.
